Experimenting with synthetic music-making techniques often leads to many abandoned ideas. Hit Me is a full production involving a multitude of sounds to produce a down-tempo dance vibe.
Hit Me was originally composed in LogicPro using software instruments and live bass. Stems were bounced to Ableton Live where further instruments were added and Ableton’s unique mixing capabilities were applied.

Written and Performed by Acid Ocean
Acid Ocean is a North Vancouver based punk band that I have been working with for the better part of a year. Although their first single, Angel, is more of a throwback to the 50s hop vibe, their use of distorted guitars and raspy vocals gives the song a modern appeal.
This song was recorded over the course of winter 2009/2010. Drums were recorded as MIDI on Roland V-Drums and drum samples were triggered using Native Instrument’s Battery 3.
A composition to picture for the video game, Call of Duty.
Lacking very little in the realm of normal human feeling and emotion, the recreation of this score for the acclaimed video game mirrors its lack of humanity with an almost entirely synthetic arrangement.
This is a DJ style sampler, looper and mixer that uses the Fourier Transform functions of Max to modulate samples without adjusting tempo. This patch also is capable of sequencing events using the qlist object.
Using Cycling 74’s Max/MSP, an additive synthesizer was created using Max that is modified by vibrato, frequency modulation and a brightness slider. There is a fundamental cycle that is being manipulated by math operations to create harmonic frequencies. These harmonics are changed by the brightness slider.
A musical sweeping tool that is a new take on the standard Reaktor envelope. By changing the typical log functions of the Reaktor envelope into bar and beat lengths, the traditional sweep machine can become much more musically inclined.
Mitchell Bederman has been interested in audio as a career since his first foray into the music studio to record an album for his band. At the time he was studying music at UBC and had been devoted to singing and songwriting for his rock and roll band. Mitch believed that by combining his knowledge of music with audio recording techniques and skills, he would be able to position himself as an expert in the field. By studying Professional Recording Arts at the Art Institute, his interests grew beyond those of just music. His current passions, in addition to music composition and production, now lie in game audio productions and interactive audio media development.
Artistic Statement
My main artistic outlets are in music composition, performance and production of rock and electronica. I try to maximize appeal with catchy, hook-based music that is upbeat, easy to listen and dance to, but also maintains a lyrical message. My compositions have grown into a combination of rock and roll with electronic dance music elements. These dance elements are carried out through the implementation of digital synthesis and interactive programs like Max/MSP and Reaktor.
Since the state of much of pop music now greatly encompasses both rock and electronica, I believe that I have positioned myself to create music that will be appreciated as influential not only now, but in years to come.
